Ann Arbor Hot Tub Hotels - Traveler Reviews

My child suffered an injury on her foot when something on the bottom of the pool peeled off a piece of skin. She bled for 15-20 minutes and I had to take her to urgent care, where she was started on antibiotics. My child is in a lot of pain and almost missed her first day of school.
The staff provided me the email for the general manager, Jason, and he called me the next day just to mansplain to me that there is nothing wrong with the pool, that everything is working (the splash area has been broken for a while per staff), and to blame me for the injury saying it happened because my child was in the water for one hour. I told him about the multiple reviews I found afterwards of people whose kids also suffered injuries to their feet, and he simply brushed it off saying it happens when kids are in the water for too long. No apology, no refund, just told me to go to hilton.com if I wanted to place a complaint (which I did and they simoky forwarded it to the same general manager), and asked if I wanted to speak to their liability insurance people. These types of injuries don't just happen - if that was the case, kids would be hurt with their feet bleeding at splash parks and pools nationwide all the time. His response was just so inhumane and showed a complete disregard for my child, and for all the other children who have been injured here.
Unless you are looking to get hurt at their pool, or pay 250 a night for a splash pad that does not work, or get ripped off by $20 bagels and cold cereal for breakfast, I cannot possibly recommend this hotel.
The Hilton Garden pool should be shut down, and a new manager should be hired.
To the hotel: please do not respond to this comment unless you are the corporate office and are ready to apologize.

UPDATE 8/29/25:
After not hearing from anyone at the hotel or Hilton corporate for a week, I called the escalation team again. All they did was send my complaint back to Jason, who responded saying there is nothing wrong with the pool. Still no apology. Refund was denied by Jason because I booked thru a third party, but when I call the 3rd party they said only the hotel can approve a refund. Jason is refusing to answer calls from corporate regarding this incident, sending them to voicemail. Moreover, corporate told me today that Hilton doesn't get involved with this, just sends complaints to the hotel manager.
My child is still in a lot of pain and the injury is getting infected. No word on reimbursement for her medical bills either, which corporate said won't be paid because the hotel never filled out and incident report. So not only are they being negligent with the pool, but also violating Hilton policy on purpose.
I will never, ever stay at a Hilton hotel again.
While I appreciate your response, I take exception to some of your clarifications. You do charge for coffee in the lobby. Either that or someone at the front desk has created their own signage and is accepting cash payments daily for it, as members of my party can attest to. Not only that, I received an email response from Hilton directly stating "As per Hilton brand standards for DoubleTree by Hilton, in-room waters, as well as restaurant and lobby coffee, are charged for lower-tier members." That seems pretty clear-cut. Please do not lie, just admit you are following procedure and charging for coffee.
As for the pay breakfast, I'll assume it was simply a misstatement upon check-in and not an intentional attempt at trying to deceive guests although I have my doubts.
As for the bottled water, please see the referenced Hilton quote from above again. You do charge HHonor members for water if they are not at a certain tier level. As I mentioned originally, I admit to not reading the tags closely enough to recognize this at the time. My mistake, I am a low-tier member and not eligible for the free water and the charges are accurate. But your clarification is incorrect....all HHonors members do not receive complimentary bottled water in-room. Again, I ask you not to lie, and just admit you are following procedure and charging for water.
I still stand by my original review, and your response does nothing but reinforce my intention to avoid Hilton properties in the future.
Original Review:
For myself and my family, I stayed a total of five combined nights in three rooms recently for a wedding in the area. The rooms were fine, mostly clean and in decent shape. The property was the same, not amazing but not terrible either. One room complained the water pressure was terrible, but the other two rooms it seemed OK. The staff was overall friendly and helpful. Our rooms were not ready when we arrived at 3:30 (check-in at 3:00), so we had to wait around about 1.5-2 hours before we could actually access our rooms. We were told at check-in there was a free continental breakfast, but that was not true. The next morning we found the only breakfast options were all pay based. There was also no complimentary coffee in the lobby, each cup cost $3.00. Upon check-in I was greeted as a HHonors member, it was on the TV screens when we entered the rooms, etc. So when I saw the bottles of water in the room that said they were complimentary for HHonor members, I didn't think twice. I admit I did not read closely, as they apparently specified they were only free for upper level HHonor members, not the lowly basic members like myself. So that was an unexpected $12 charge that came through after check-out. Not going to break the bank, but after spending just under $1,200 for the rooms....getting nickle and dimed for coffee and water seemed quite petty. I will actively avoid Hilton properties going forward because of this.
I did experience great customer service from 3 young ladies .
Ray (SP?) . Adina, and Anna.
All three should be commended for their customer service, positive attitudes and ability to address customers service requests and maintenance issues Immediately. Hilton is lucky to have them .
Please share this review with them. This review was not AI generated and I’m not just saying nice things.
The rating is for the pool. We booked solely so we could use the pool. The day we checked in it appeared as though a birthday party was being hosted in the pool area. Food, crumbs, spills littered the whole pool area. The pool was disgusting (floating hair clumps, hair ties, broken/deflated toys, dirty floor etc). The following morning we figured that everything would be cleaned from the previous day. Nothing was clean. The only thing that had been done was the chairs and tables (still dirty) replaced to their spots and towels refilled. It was really gross. I told the front desk and asked how long before they'd clean it she said 10 mins at most. Two people came in, talked for a minute, then one came back and changed the trash and didn't return. The pool area stayed that way until past 10 am sadly. Checkout is at 11 so. What a waste of money and honestly our time.
Pics of just SOME of the nastiness... broken bball hoop, whale doesn't work, and stuff at the bottom of the pool and more hair clumps
Communication was a little bit of a struggle during booking, but the staff helped us resolve everything and made it work. I also want to thank Adina at the front desk for being especially friendly and helpful! She went above and beyond, making sure we had water bottles and even finding paper plates when the pizza we ordered didn't come with them.
