The service was disappointing. I got a head injury due to an employee's negligence. All that was done by the Inn was to ask me to file an injury report. I was informed that I would be contacted by management and I have yet to hear from them. I expected to receive contact about this the day I filed the report, or at the very least before I checked out. Nothing was done. This Inn no longer feels safe to stay in. Unfortunately, if an injury is not adequately addressed, then I don't know what the Inn can provide if something goes wrong.

Remodeling was going on when I stayed there, but it was still a great place to stay.

Hotel is under renovation. That doesn't matter to me though I stay in hotels all over and some of them aren't the greatest. My room was immaculate since everything was brand new. TV had great channels, shower had hot water, small mini fridge, my bed was super comfortable, breakfast was your normal hot basics, lady working at night was nice.

The woman at the front desk was so rude and unfriendly. We ask for adjoining rooms when we booked and even called the day before check in to confirm we had them as we were babysitting our nieces and nephew, we were told yes then at check in we were told they only had one adjoining room suite and someone checked in four nights ago for the whole week… ?! On top of that our room was so hot and the fan and a/c never brought the temp down we were miserable all night with the loud fan blowing and the temp not even cooling. Would never stay here again.

Stayed here during the week with the family. Upset to find the pool closed with no warnings or information provided from Choice Hotels. Recently renovated room, everything looked clean and organized. Currently hotel is going through renovations so noise was occurring, but was expected. Unfortunatly a strong odour of Marijuana was present for most of our visit. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was great. Location is right off the highway and close to food and shopping. May return.

The hotel is conveniently located right off of I-94, near several gas stations, and across from Briarwood Mall. The hotel is currently undergoing a renovation in collaboration with the Hilton. The rooms are decently sized. The lighting is a bit harsh and bright. Rooms are clean. The breakfast buffet is offered from 6:30 am until 10 am.

This is a quintessential basic stay option. Undergoing renovation at the moment so there is construction material visible, some noises in the late morning and the smell of fresh paint and chemicals (but this will get better with time). Rooms are clean Very basic. Breakfast was subpar. Can be better. Gym is small, basic equipment. Location is good right off of I-94 and only minutes from the University Campus. I think its a good option for someone who just wants to hit the bed at night and have a basic filler breakfast in the morning. Can be better if the ownership puts more effort into it.

Dangerous pool, and general manager won't take responsibility! Stay away from this hotel.

My child suffered an injury on her foot when something on the bottom of the pool peeled off a piece of skin. She bled for 15-20 minutes and I had to take her to urgent care, where she was started on antibiotics. My child is in a lot of pain and almost missed her first day of school.

The staff provided me the email for the general manager, Jason, and he called me the next day just to mansplain to me that there is nothing wrong with the pool, that everything is working (the splash area has been broken for a while per staff), and to blame me for the injury saying it happened because my child was in the water for one hour. I told him about the multiple reviews I found afterwards of people whose kids also suffered injuries to their feet, and he simply brushed it off saying it happens when kids are in the water for too long. No apology, no refund, just told me to go to hilton.com if I wanted to place a complaint (which I did and they simoky forwarded it to the same general manager), and asked if I wanted to speak to their liability insurance people. These types of injuries don't just happen - if that was the case, kids would be hurt with their feet bleeding at splash parks and pools nationwide all the time. His response was just so inhumane and showed a complete disregard for my child, and for all the other children who have been injured here.

Unless you are looking to get hurt at their pool, or pay 250 a night for a splash pad that does not work, or get ripped off by $20 bagels and cold cereal for breakfast, I cannot possibly recommend this hotel.

The Hilton Garden pool should be shut down, and a new manager should be hired.

To the hotel: please do not respond to this comment unless you are the corporate office and are ready to apologize.

-------
UPDATE 8/29/25:
After not hearing from anyone at the hotel or Hilton corporate for a week, I called the escalation team again. All they did was send my complaint back to Jason, who responded saying there is nothing wrong with the pool. Still no apology. Refund was denied by Jason because I booked thru a third party, but when I call the 3rd party they said only the hotel can approve a refund. Jason is refusing to answer calls from corporate regarding this incident, sending them to voicemail. Moreover, corporate told me today that Hilton doesn't get involved with this, just sends complaints to the hotel manager.

My child is still in a lot of pain and the injury is getting infected. No word on reimbursement for her medical bills either, which corporate said won't be paid because the hotel never filled out and incident report. So not only are they being negligent with the pool, but also violating Hilton policy on purpose.

I will never, ever stay at a Hilton hotel again.

Booked on Expedia. Called 3 times before my stay to confirm it was ok to have four family members come and celebrate my 6 year old autistic sons birthday at the indoor pool. Every time they said absolutely not a problem. They even held the cake in their cooler so they knew we were going to have a little party on the outdoor patio next to the pool. They offered for us to have it inside or outside. My mom, dad, sister and 2 year old nephew showed up. Mind you my son was the only one in the pool. The manager said they would not allow my nephew to swim as he wasn't on the room reservation and they don't allow birthday parties. We were an hour into the little party as it was. All we did was order a couple of pizzas and hang out on the pool patio. What's unfortunate and what broke my heart is seeing my nephew not be able to swim with his cousin and all the while the manager was watching us and smiling. That was just cruel and heartbreaking to have to endure that. I complained to corporate and cut my stay a night short because of how upset I was. Also to charge 25 dollars for a crap buffet is beyond me. The hotel employees should be ashamed of themselves however I will say Isaiah was wonderful and very accommodating. I will never stay there again and I hope they get reprimanded for this and I at least get my money back for the night I didn't stay.

Update:
While I appreciate your response, I take exception to some of your clarifications. You do charge for coffee in the lobby. Either that or someone at the front desk has created their own signage and is accepting cash payments daily for it, as members of my party can attest to. Not only that, I received an email response from Hilton directly stating "As per Hilton brand standards for DoubleTree by Hilton, in-room waters, as well as restaurant and lobby coffee, are charged for lower-tier members." That seems pretty clear-cut. Please do not lie, just admit you are following procedure and charging for coffee.

As for the pay breakfast, I'll assume it was simply a misstatement upon check-in and not an intentional attempt at trying to deceive guests although I have my doubts.

As for the bottled water, please see the referenced Hilton quote from above again. You do charge HHonor members for water if they are not at a certain tier level. As I mentioned originally, I admit to not reading the tags closely enough to recognize this at the time. My mistake, I am a low-tier member and not eligible for the free water and the charges are accurate. But your clarification is incorrect....all HHonors members do not receive complimentary bottled water in-room. Again, I ask you not to lie, and just admit you are following procedure and charging for water.

I still stand by my original review, and your response does nothing but reinforce my intention to avoid Hilton properties in the future.

Original Review:
For myself and my family, I stayed a total of five combined nights in three rooms recently for a wedding in the area. The rooms were fine, mostly clean and in decent shape. The property was the same, not amazing but not terrible either. One room complained the water pressure was terrible, but the other two rooms it seemed OK. The staff was overall friendly and helpful. Our rooms were not ready when we arrived at 3:30 (check-in at 3:00), so we had to wait around about 1.5-2 hours before we could actually access our rooms. We were told at check-in there was a free continental breakfast, but that was not true. The next morning we found the only breakfast options were all pay based. There was also no complimentary coffee in the lobby, each cup cost $3.00. Upon check-in I was greeted as a HHonors member, it was on the TV screens when we entered the rooms, etc. So when I saw the bottles of water in the room that said they were complimentary for HHonor members, I didn't think twice. I admit I did not read closely, as they apparently specified they were only free for upper level HHonor members, not the lowly basic members like myself. So that was an unexpected $12 charge that came through after check-out. Not going to break the bank, but after spending just under $1,200 for the rooms....getting nickle and dimed for coffee and water seemed quite petty. I will actively avoid Hilton properties going forward because of this.

Great room and location. Unfortunately I needed to change my reservation, which the clerk agreed to. I was then charged for both my original stay and my new stay, without ever being told such. I was also informed a refund would not be possible. Would not recommend for business travel, worst Hilton experience I have had.

Stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Ann Arbor for two nights July 11 and 12 2025. I didn’t use any of the amenities, so I can’t rate those.

I did experience great customer service from 3 young ladies .
Ray (SP?) . Adina, and Anna.
All three should be commended for their customer service, positive attitudes and ability to address customers service requests and maintenance issues Immediately. Hilton is lucky to have them .
Please share this review with them. This review was not AI generated and I’m not just saying nice things.

Overall: the room and hotel are decent

The rating is for the pool. We booked solely so we could use the pool. The day we checked in it appeared as though a birthday party was being hosted in the pool area. Food, crumbs, spills littered the whole pool area. The pool was disgusting (floating hair clumps, hair ties, broken/deflated toys, dirty floor etc). The following morning we figured that everything would be cleaned from the previous day. Nothing was clean. The only thing that had been done was the chairs and tables (still dirty) replaced to their spots and towels refilled. It was really gross. I told the front desk and asked how long before they'd clean it she said 10 mins at most. Two people came in, talked for a minute, then one came back and changed the trash and didn't return. The pool area stayed that way until past 10 am sadly. Checkout is at 11 so. What a waste of money and honestly our time.

Pics of just SOME of the nastiness... broken bball hoop, whale doesn't work, and stuff at the bottom of the pool and more hair clumps

The lobby spaces are amazing to hang out in, and they also have nice patio options for those who prefer to spend time outside. We booked a block of rooms here recently for our wedding, and really enjoyed having those spaces for people to see each other.

Communication was a little bit of a struggle during booking, but the staff helped us resolve everything and made it work. I also want to thank Adina at the front desk for being especially friendly and helpful! She went above and beyond, making sure we had water bottles and even finding paper plates when the pizza we ordered didn't come with them.
